Have you ever thought about how wool gets from those gentle sheep grazing in the field into a ball of yarn for you to knit?
Weather permitting we will be visiting a local flock of sheep and taking some of their fleece through all the stages to start to knit a simple project.
Learn basics of wool teasing, carding, washing, spinning and knitting. There has never been a better time to pick up those needles – knitting is popular! And whether you’re a complete beginner or just need a reminder of what to do it will be as easy as 1,2,3. You’ll be taken step by step through learning the basics, leaving you confident and wanting more!
In this course you’ll learn everything you need to know, including casting on and off, basic knit and purl stitches and how to increase and decrease your knitting as well as reading a simple pattern.
This course is part demonstration and part practical, and you will take home some yarn, knitting needles and a simple pattern to continue your project at home, as well as the wonderful experience of getting up close to the sheep's fleece and where yarn comes from. There will also be ready-spun and vegetable dyed yarn on sale.
This course is suitable for complete beginners and those with prior experience.
The day begins at 10.30 and includes a welcome coffee/tea and snack, a light lunch and afternoon tea or coffee with delicious home baking.
All equipment, materials and instructions are provided.
The course will take place at our home in Much Birch, Herefordshire, in our purpose-built studio or the local village hall.
