One or two day pottery -making on a wheel course:

This course will introduce you to making pots on a wheel - throwing,

or enable you to practise and deepen your knowledge.

Day one: The workshop starts at 10.30am. After tea/coffee and introductions

there will be a demonstration of pot-throwing processes. Then you will be

encouraged to develop at your own pace with individual tutoring as and when

required, using an electric and/or kick wheel. Around 1pm, a light home-

made lunch of soup & salad and dessert/cake /fruit  is served. In the

afternoon there will be further demonstrations after which you may wish to

work larger lumps of clay, make bigger projects and explore different shapes

and forms.

This course is really for anyone, those entirely new to throwing as well as those with experience. You can go along at your own pace once you've seen demonstrations. Pottery is something everybody can do, and it can be a wonderful way to relax and be creative at the same time. The positive and inclusive nature of the instruction means everybody can have a great sense of achievement and some pots they will be really proud of.

At the end of the day you will select 1 or 2 of your best pots to

be left at ‘All-Year-Round’ for firing and glazing. The remaining

wet pots can either be recycled or taken away on the day at

cost. Extra items may be fired and posted to you for £5-£10

depending on size and weight*.

For those returning the next day, there are lovely B&Bs, local

pubs and country walks; the River Wye is 2 miles down the road.

Day two: The workshop starts at 10.30am. Following a demonstration of handle

making and applying, you will be able to continue throwing pots, making handles

for the pots you made yesterday, and exploring different shapes and styles. You

will be able to select another two pots to be fired, glazed and re-fired.

Your selected pots will be left  to dry thoroughly before they go into the kiln. Once they have been fired and glazed, they'll be carefully wrapped and dispatched to your home address. You will be delighted at the professional results when they arrive on your doorstep approximately one month later. (Local participants are welcome to collect their pots).

Everything you need for the day is included: refreshments all day; a hearty homemade lunch; firings; clay; glazes; tools; wheels, aprons. Small groups ensure plenty of learning opportunities.

Participant's feedback:

" I enjoyed every minute of my pottery course, from start to finish.

Would definitely recommend this to anyone, especially complete beginners, as I would never have dreamed I could throw a bowl all on my own the second day - despite intending to make a jug! Fabulous lunches too."
