Hand-building pottery

Pottery is something everybody can do; there are no mistakes in pottery  learning experiences! The positive and inclusive nature of the instruction means everybody can achieve wonderful results.

The therapeutic benefits of working with soft clay make this a stress-relieving

activity. Small friendly groups ensure plenty of individual attention and

guidance. You will explore a whole range of techniques based on age-old

hand-building methods that you will be able to take away and continue to use

at home.

The workshop starts at 10.30am. After tea/coffee, introductions and initial demonstration you will be taken as a group, step by step, through the hand-building processes. Then you will be encouraged to develop at your own pace with individual tutoring as and when required. Around 1pm, a light home- made lunch of soup & salad and dessert/fruit is served.

In the afternoon there will be further demonstrations after which you may wish

to work with larger lumps of clay, make bigger projects and explore different

shapes and forms.

At the end of the day you will select 1 or 2 of your best pots to be left at

‘All-Year-Round’ for firing and glazing. The remaining wet pots can either be

recycled or taken away on the day at cost. Extra items may be fired and

posted to you for £5-£10 depending on size and weight*.

Your unique creations will be left with us to dry thoroughly before they go into

the kiln. Once they have been fired and glazed, we'll carefully wrap and dispatch your finished pots to your home address. You will be delighted at the professional results when they arrive on your doorstep approximately one month later. (Local participants are welcome to collect their pots).

Everything you need for the day is included: refreshments; homemade lunch; firings; clay; glazes; tools; aprons.

This course is an introduction to hand-building techniques making pinch pots, slab pots and coil pots. You will receive two of your own finished, fired and glazed pots after the course, which are included in the price.

One day course   10-30 -4pm              £64                                         &  p+p for pots if neccesary*.
